Welcome to my website!
I'm usually known as just plain "Larry Gibbons", without the middle initial. But it seems there's another Larry Gibbons, who nabbed the domain name before I did, though Google tells me he has ‘parked’ it, so I had to include that initial. I am a writer, but writing is not done in a vacuum, and it tends to go in directions unplanned by the author, so there will be many topics covered.
A graduate of Queen’s University and St. Lawrence College in Kingston, Ontario, my interests and work life have always been somewhat eclectic. I have been a library clerk, a photo technologist and a veterinarian technologist at various times. Known as a book lover, a passionate writer and an enthusiastic hiker, cyclist, hockey player and cross-country skier, I have lived off and on in Cape Breton for almost twenty years, but now live here permanently. In Ontario, Sue and I lived in a cabin in the woods and we now live in a mobile home in the woods in Middle River. In fact, our place is right on the banks of the Middle River after which this community is named. The highlands and the woodlands are where we feel most at home.

My writing often focuses on the spiritual depths hidden and revealed in nature, and on the relationships between Natives and non-Natives. In February, 2013, my story, “Prophets Don’t Honk” was selected for the Long List of the CBC “Canada Writes” Short Story Contest. The Canadian Authors Association has recognized one of my stories with an “Honourable Mention” and my stories have been published in anthologies, magazines and newsletters in Nova Scotia, Ontario and the United States. Breton Books published a book of my short stories, called ‘White Eyes’, in November, 2011. I also write a nature-based column called “A Tio Wulf Ramble" in the Frontenac News, a newsletter published three times a year by the Friends of Frontenac Park in Ontario. Those articles can be read here:

I wrote a whole series of children’s stories a few years back for the Wagmatcook Newsletter, which no longer exists. And I’ve published articles on various topics online and in magazines. One was about the Wagmatcook Cultural and Heritage Centre. It was called “Celebrating Culture, Building Self-Reliance” and can be found here: http://www.coastalcommunities.ns.ca/magazine/backissues/v7_i4.html#cc3
Another was a piece on the Eastern Cougar, called “Mysterious Cat of the Deep Woods”. You can find it here, but you need to scroll halfway down the page for it: http://coastalcommunities.ns.ca/magazine/backissues/v8_i1.html
Third Person Press has published three of my stories: one was the title story in their first anthology, “Undercurrents”, another was included in their anthology, “Unearthed”, and a third was included in their anthology, titled "Flashpoint", which was recently launched at the McConnell Library in Sydney, NS. I was honoured to be interviewed at the launch by the CBC along with another author. To read an interview with me conducted by Sherry Ramsey, one of the three owners of Third Person Press, click here: http://thirdpersonpress.blogspot.ca/2012/06/author-interview-larry-gibbons.html
I'm currently working on a new book, but more about that later... Don't forget to check out my blog:
