Anyway, while sorting, I found an article that I wrote, not too long after I met Sue. It was in 2004.
Here it is, pretty well unchanged.
Inside my cozy garret, a candle flickers on my writing desk, its tiny flame pressing dark shadows onto my walls and ceiling. Ask me this, am I suffering from winter claustrophobia and sunlight deficiency?
You see, Sue had a yearning. A deep desire to see a loon dive under the water. And, she had caught the eye of a specific loon and sent to the loon this specific request. A prayer for her to be able tot look down into the water, and watch the this loon actually swimming in the watery depths.
What her story brought to me were feelings of reverence and hope and the thought that there is still out there in the world, enchantment. Everywhere, r really, but easier to find in the wild. And that’s why, to my mind, the wild is so important.
